Non Degree Monbukagakusho Scholarship in Japanese Studies Program
Application deadline: January 29, 2010.

Japanese Studies Program is one of the Japanese Government scholarship programs (Monbukagakusho) specifically designed for japanese studies students to enhanced Japanese language skills and deepen understanding of Japanese culture. This program is a non-degree programs and the length is 1 year from October 2010.

Requirements
1. Students who are still active in college at one college who studied the language, culture, and literature of Japan.
2. Age under 30 years old on April 1, 2010.
3. Students from third level up in time to apply (no exceptions for those who have the ability and recommended by the college and who have learned more than one year in college on 1 April 2010 may participate although not yet reached a level three).
4. Physical and spiritually healthy.

Facilities
- Without the bond department.
- Flight ticket allowance, economy class Indonesia (Jakarta) - Japan.
- Free entrance examination fees, tuition and registration fee.
- Monthly allowance of \ 134,000 per month (there is a possibility to change).
- Participants provided dormitory regulated solely by payment recipients.

How to apply
1. Registration opened on 16 November 2010 and closed on January 29, 2010.
2. Applying carried out collectively with the recommendations of the respective universities, not the individual directly to the Embassy of Japan.
3. Completed form is returned to the Education Section Embassy of Japan with the necessary documents attached.

Japanese language written test on 16 February 2010
For those who passed the written examination will be summoned for an interview in Jakarta.
For those who pass the interview will be recommended to Monbukagakusho.

Beasiswa S-3 di luar negeri akan diberikan kepada dosen LPTK bidang Pendidikan Dasar (Elementary Education).
Penentuan penerima beasiswa ditentukan melalui hasil seleksi terhadap pelamar yang memenuhi persyaratan. Adapun persyaratan dimaksud sebagai berikut :

Persyaratan Peserta:

Peserta adalah staf pengajar yang bertugas mengajar:
a a.1.Pada program studi S-1 PGSD, dibuktikan dengan SK tugas mengajar dan rincian mata kuliah yang diajarkan atau
a.2.Pada program studi lain (pendidikan matematika, kelompok pendidikan IPA, kelompok pendidikan IPS, pendidikan Kewarganegaraan, dan pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia) dan setelah menyelesaikan pendidikan, bersedia mengajar pada program studi S-1 PGSD;
b. Calon peserta telah memperoleh Letter of Acceptance (LoA) perguruan tinggi di luar negeri yang terakreditasi;
c. Memiliki skor TOEFL sesuai yang dipersyaratkan oleh perguruan tinggi penyelenggara di luar negeri.

Status Kepegawaian
a. Telah berstatus PNS bagi dosen Perguruan Tinggi Negeri atau DPK Kopertis dibuktikan dengan kepemilikan Karpeg, atau
b. Dosen tetap universitas/ perguruan tinggi yang berstatus BHMN, dibuktikan dengan Surat Keputusan Rektor, atau
c. Dosen tetap yayasan bagi yang berasal dari institusi swasta, dibuktikan dengan Surat Keputusan Rektor/Yayasan;

A selected project for Global COE (Centers of Excellence) Program :
Formation and Development of Mathematical Sciences Based on Modeling and Analysis

Overview of MIMS Ph. D. Program
The key educational component of the Global COE Program for the `Formation and Development of Mathematical Sciences Based on Modeling and Analysis' is the Ph.D. program provided by MIMS, an affiliated research institute of the Organization for the Strategic Coordination of Research and Intellectual Property, Meiji University.

This program consists of (1) "Cross Educational Programs" and (2) "Practical Programs".

(1) "Cross Educational Programs" are based mainly on the "Project Based Analysis and Research Cluster" and the "Inter-Departmental Course" at the Graduate School of Meiji University. In the "Project Based Analysis and Research Cluster", four subjects - Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciencesâ… & â…¡, and Advanced Mathematical Sciences â… & â…¡ - are provided, which are coordinated by MIMS members and research fellows. These subjects are taught in both English and Japanese, and are designed to instruct students in "Mathematical modeling and analysis" for nonlinear non-equilibrium systems and non-linear time-series, which are central themes at MIMS. The aim is that students become able to consider complex phenomena in societies from various perspectives. The Inter-Departmental Course offer a number of "Multilingual Graduate Research", such as "Fundamentals of English Communication Skills in Academic Setting" and "Fundamentals of Writing Academic Papers in English". These subjects, which are taught by English native speaking professors specializing in academic English teaching, are aimed to cultivate highly skilled researchers able to be active internationally. Moreover, as an optional curriculum, students are recommended to study at graduate schools of partner universities based on the credit transfer system. At the Department of Mathematical and Life Sciences at the Graduate School of Science, Hiroshima University, a collaborating institute of our Global COE Program, some courses are available to be enrolled. In addition, the Graduate School of Science and Technology of Ryukoku University, an education and research hub for western Japan on Mathematical Sciences, provides students with the opportunity to take classes as well.

On the other hand, (2) "Practical Programs" are based mainly on the "MIMS Research Guidance Program" at the Graduate School of Meiji University, and the "Project research for graduate students" at the Department of Mathematical and Life Sciences at the Graduate School of Science, Hiroshima University. In the "MIMS Research Guidance Program", a MIMS member or research fellow will be selected from each MIMS research group (Modeling, Mathematical Analysis, and Simulation) to form a research guidance team which will then provide comprehensive supervision to each individual student. The program mainly consists of two courses: the "Non-linear non-equilibrium systems course" which focuses mainly on vital and biological phenomena and the "Non-linear time-series course" which focuses mainly on economics, finance and the phenomena of natural science. The "Project research for graduate students" allows students to actually study at the Graduate School of Hiroshima University and participate in research programs for several months. Students must plan their own research subject, and complete a report of their accomplishments. The aim is to enhance students' ability to study on their own initiative in different environmental conditions and heighten their research expertise and understanding of their respective fields.

Students who complete all of the courses mentioned above receive necessary guidance, and once the student has reached a certain level, the student will receive permission to submit a dissertation (Doctoral Thesis). Students who have successfully passed the examination of the thesis, will be awarded a Doctoral Degree.

Job Description : Hannover Biomedical Research School, as part of Hannover Medical School (MHH), invites applications for its three PhD programs to commence in October 2010.

HBRS is one of Germany’s leading graduate schools, funded by the Excellence Initiative and offering top-level research, education and training possibilities. The Cluster of Excellence Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows at the Heidelberg University invites applications for three PhD fellowships for the cluster's project "The Asian Sea: A Transnational Maritime History of the Age of Imperialism, 1850-1918"

The fellowship is supposed to start as early as 1 April 2010 but no later than October 2010. Fellowship funding, monthly 1000 EUR, is initially available until October 2012 with the possibility of extension to a full three year period.

Dissertations may be in any field of modern Asian History from the mid-nineteenth to the early twentieth century that have a maritime, coastal, port, and interregional dimension and place their theme or local case study in the broader transnational development of the region as a whole. Successful candidates will have completed a Masters degree prior to taking up the position. Fluency in English, knowledge of one Asian language and ideally some command of a second European or Asian language is expected.

Process Overview
Last day to submit applications is February 15, 2010. During February and March, the applicants fulfilling the set of basic criteria will be evaluated. Interviews with top ranked candidates will take place in March and April 2010.

The position
The successful candidate will conduct doctoral studies within the fundamental sciences, in line with the intentions described in the application. The position will be placed at the department of the candidate`s choice.

The position is limited to maximum five years and corresponds to full-time research studies during four years. In addition, teaching in the undergraduate or masters curricula at Chalmers could be included corresponding to one year, teaching work distributed over the whole time of the position.

The specific aim of the five year period is for the PhD student to develop a high degree of independence and a general problem solving ability to make a continued successful carrier in either academia or industry possible.

Required qualifications

History or background of award
For the purpose of encouraging postgraduate research, one objective being to build up strong research schools at the University, Victoria offers PhD scholarships to support doctoral studies. These scholarships are awarded on academic merit and are open to New Zealand and international students in any discipline.

Purpose of award
These Scholarships are intended to encourage doctoral study at Victoria University of Wellington.

Selection criteria
The Scholarships are open to graduates of any university within or outside of New Zealand who intend to enrol either for PhD or who have started their PhD study within one year of application.

Applicants with Victoria University 'offers of study' of who are current Victoria University PhD students must apply on the application form available from the link at the top of this webpage.

Please note: from 1 January 2010 there are changes to both the process for applying for PhD study at Victoria and applying for a Victoria PhD Scholarship. How these changes affect you is outlined below.

From 1 January 2010, for new PhD applicants there will be one application process for admission to the PhD programme and University and for PhD scholarships. The combined application form will be available from late 2009 on the Faculty of Graduate Research Website www.victoria.ac.nz/fgr/prospective-phds/scholarships.aspx

Please note: Although applications will be considered from students seeking scholarship support for a PhD degree for which they are already enrolled at Victoria, if you have applied for a Victoria PhD scholarship in the past, you must provide updated or additional information to apply for a second round. Such applications must be accompanied by clear support from supervisors.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Offers of Victoria Phd Scholarships will be made approximately six weeks after each closing date in March, July and November of the year of application. Because some applicants may in the event decline the offer of a Scholarship with the result that further offers have to be made, it is possible that some applicants will not be finally notified of the success or otherwise of their applications three months after application. If you are unsuccessful you will be notified of this and if you are on the researve list by email in the first instance. Please provide a clear and correct email address.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Scholarship recipients shall be required to devote themselves full-time to their programme of research during the tenure of the scholarship and may not hold a position of emolument without the approval of the University Scholarships Committee. Approval may be given for scholarship recipients to undertake paid employment (usually tutoring) for up to a maximum of 600 hours in any one calendar year. All requests to undertake part-time employment must be supported in writing by the supervisor.
Once the period of tenure of a scholarship has commenced, the University Scholarships Committee may, at its sole discretion, grant a scholarship recipient a deferment of their scholarship for a period not exceeding one year. In most cases such a deferment will coincide with a formal suspension from their PhD enrolment.
A scholarship shall be terminated if a scholarship recipient ceases to resume the aforesaid programme of research within one month of the last day of the period of the deferment.
If an award is made to an existing PhD candidate the tenure of the award will be reduced.

Additional information
Several types of Victoria PhD Scholarship may be offered. Most successful applicants will be offered a Victoria PhD Scholarship which provide an annual stipend of NZ$21,000 plus tuition fees. However, a small number of Vice Chancellor's Scholarships will be offered to the top applicants each round. These provide an annual stipend of $24,000 plus tuition fees. A number of Victoria Doctoral Assistantships are also offered each round. These consist of an annual stipend $15,000 plus tuition fees and an emploment component of $5,000.
Applicants, other than those who have completed all of their study at Victoria, must include a certified copy of their academic record from other institutions with this application. Applicants whose degree has been conferred at any university other than a New Zealand University will be considered in two categories:
Category 1 - applicants from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Germany or Australia must supply an original or certified copy of their university transcript.
Category 2 - applicants from any other country must have their transcript verified and assessed with a course by course evaluation by one of the below educational evaluators:

PhD Studentship: Molecular mechanisms of membrane proteins

Design and Characterization of Bio-inspired Nanosensors Engineered by Assembly of

Receptors and Ion Channels

The subject. We have devised a novel type of bio-inspired sensors, Ion-Channel Coupled Receptors

(ICCR), based on the fusion of receptors with an ion channel serving as an electrical probe. Binding of

a ligand to the receptor triggers opening of the associated ion channel and an increased ion flux that is

easily detectable using existing techniques. This concept was validated by the creation of ICCRs

between a potassium channel and several G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) [cf. Moreau et al, 2008,

Nature Nanotech 3:620-5].

The thesis shall concern the structure-function study of receptor-channel interactions in existing ICCRs

and on the design and construction of new ICCRs. Work will involve molecular engineering, biophysics,

and bioinformatics. It should establish the foundation of high-performance bioelectrical sensors while

providing a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of GPCR activation and ion channel

gating.

Although this project has a strong biotechnological flavor, the approach shall remain very fundamental

with a strong focus on the structure and function of membrane proteins and on their interactions.

The place. The thesis will take place in the Channels lab within the Membrane Proteins Dept of the

Institute for Structural Biology (www.ibs.fr/laboratories/membrane-protein-lab-lpm/transportersreceptors-

and-ion). The Channels lab focuses on ion channels and membrane protein engineering and

is recognized for its work on K-ATP channel and proteic biosensors.

IBS is a renowned institute in the field of structural and molecular biology. It is part of the Grenoble

scientific polygon with numerous research intitutes and colleges as well as several large instruments

such as the European Synchrotron. The site offers a stimulating scientific environment in the natural

surroundings of the French Alps.

The candidate. Strong academic background. Experience or interest in molecular biology,

electrophysiology, or bioinformatics.

The granting agency (CEA) will only consider candidates with top-tier academic records. There are no

other restrictive conditions and foreigners can, and should, apply.

The position. The position is for three years starting in October 2010. The salary is very competitive

(~2000 €/month).

The main tasks concern the development, adaptation, and programming of data mining (pattern recognition) models and tools. In particular, topics to be studied include modeling of data clustering, novelty detection, feature selection,
manifold learning, risk mapping, and spatio-temporal simulations. In addition to the PhD the candidate is expected to assist in teaching (French, English) and other projects at the institute.

The Agri-food & Agri-environmental Economics Group of ETH Zurich (www.afee.ethz.ch) invites applications for a Ph.D position.

The successful candidate will implement a research project on the weather insurance design. The project will be financed by Swiss National Science Foundation and an ETH Zurich internal PhD-grant. The
objective of the project is to enhance the methodology of the weather insurance contract design considering conditions of limited relevance and applicability of historical data. The project will focus on the
application of extremal dependence analysis and elaboration of the methodology for the utilization of a priori information available in the form of climate change projections. The project will be conducted based on historical data, climate change projections and results of crop simulation models for Kazakhstan where grain producers are especially prone to risk of drought.

The basic requirements are:
• A master degree in Mathematics, Economics, Agricultural Economics;
• Strong background in Probability Theory and quantitative methods;
• Programming skills;
• Good command of spoken and written English;

As the project will be implemented in collaboration with the scientists from Russia and Kazakhstan, knowledge of Russian would be an asset but is not a prerequisite.

Post-Doctoral Positions in Fluorescence Microscopy of Antibodies and Fc receptors

Post-doctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Prof. E. Sally Ward and Prof. Raimund J. Ober at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Projects will involve the development and/or implementation of state-of-the-art methods in fluorescence imaging to study the intracellular trafficking of antibodies and the Fc receptor, FcRn. Imaging methods will include the use of multifocal plane microscopy and superresolution approaches for single molecules/quantum dots to build up a three dimensional, dynamic understanding of intracellular processes. These studies have direct relevance to the rapidly expanding use of antibodies in the biopharma industry as therapeutics in autoimmunity, infectious diseases and cancer.

Two Ph.D. studentships in the Dept. Aerospace Engineering, Ryerson Uni

Two Ph.D. studentships and one Postdoctoral fellowship are available
in Spacecraft Dynamics and Control, and Space Sensors and
Actuators. The student will work in the Department of Aerospace
Engineering, Ryerson University (www.ryerson.ca/aerospace). The
research will be supervised by Dr. Krishna Kumar, Canada Research
Chair. Dr. Kumar's areas of research include Nonlinear Dynamics and
Control, Sensors and Actuators, Sliding Mode Control, Intelligent
Control, Orbit and Attitude Dynamics and Control, Formation Flying,
and Underactuated Systems (refer to the web page:
http://www.kdkumar.com) . These are challenging research and involve
theoretical and experimental work. The candidate should have a
Master's/Ph.D. degree in mathematics/physics or
mechanical/aerospace/

electrical engineering with a focus on dynamics,
nonlinear control, sensors and actuators. The candidate must have a
strong background in mathematics, dynamics and control. Experience
with MATLAB is essential. Know ledge of orbital or attitude dynamics
is desirable. The candidates for PhD studentships must be Canadian or
