Panduan Menulis Esai: Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS)

1. Please describe the efforts you have undertaken so far to obtain information on your study options in Australia?
  • Cara yang kurang menarik itu misalnya: I just opened the website and filled out the online application. Then, the staff sent me the application form.
Contoh:
I have known AAS for several years and have always wanted to apply for this scholarship. After being loaded by work duties, I could eventually manage my time to fill out this application form and made up my mind to start thinking of pursuing a master’s degree in Australia. I have some colleagues that were awarded AAS before and, through them, I knew all the information about AAS; the Website of AAS is very helpful as well. (Disini saya memberikan sedikit informasi bagaimana saya mengenal AAS.)
Studying in Australia has always been one of my biggest dreams; therefore, I have done some research about the possible courses offered by universities in Australia. I learned the courses through university websites, and attended the Australia Education Fair. Besides, I did some readings on research articles related to the courses that I am interested in and connect them to my future goals.
 2. Do you intend to return to this organisation after your scholarship in Australia?* (Current employment)
If ‘Yes’, how will this scholarship contribute to the organisation’s human resource development needs? (approximately 80-100 words limit).
Contoh:
As I plan to study about the …. with this scholarship, my company/ office will benefit much regarding the …. Over the last decade, my company has been the dealing with the issue of …. It has caused so much trouble for my comany, for example ….. By studying about …., I will specify my research on …….
If ‘No’, what are your plans when you finish your studies? (approximately 80-100 words limit).
Contoh:
One of the careers that I would like to pursue is working with international organizations focusing on the issue of gender inequalities. My current does not really support ….., not to mention that the research opportunity is very limited. Therefore, I plan to work at …… after finishing my study. In addition, I intend to carry out my research further until it can influence the national policy in Indonesia..
3.  How did you choose your proposed course and institution?*
Contoh:
I am applying a master’s program in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I have a high interest in developing capabilities essential to the theories and difficulties of language curriculum design, assessment, and evaluation, and the further developing of English teaching method related to issues of diversities such as culture, mother tongue, and communicative competence in order to result the most suitable method fitting the learners need and background. I believe that this master’s program can prepare me to assume a specialty in the field of English teaching especially about theoretical approaches, language analysis, curriculum design, and intercultural communication in reaching the language learning goal in variety of contexts.
My bachelor study on English Teacher Training and Education has prepared me with a strong grounding in English and theoretical aspects of teaching which can contribute in developing my self swiftly to reach my future goal in the master’s program. I have learned about Study and Learning, Professions of Education, Teaching English as a Foreign Language I and II, Curriculum and Material Development, and Teaching Practice in my bachelor study, of which I got the highest marks. Furthermore, I have also written scientific papers and articles on education since I was an undergraduate student. My paper on education was awarded as the runner up in “Sayembara Ide (Idea Competition)”at provincial level. My articles have also been published in a bilingual newspaper. Then, I completed my study by receiving the highest mark in the study program for my final-year undergraduate thesis on English education. Such experiences surely link one another, of which I consciously learn that English teaching should be dominated by advanced concepts and assisted by effective teaching strategies. For this reason, I have totally provided my self to perform well in my future study.
I have done some research on universities in Australia that offer a master’s program in TESOL. Some of the universities provide the program with ….. , while others put more emphasis on …. As one of my future goals is to ……, I need to find a university that can provide me with strong practical knowledge on ……
4. How will the proposed study contribute to your career?*
Contoh:
My future goal is to be a specialist in the field of education, developing research-based instructional, professional, and outreach programs and promoting effective and equitable educational practices for all learners. I would like to be a researcher in higher education and governmental organizations informing the policy makers and public about the progress and challenges in education and taking part to solve the issues in educational fields in Indonesia. My bachelor’s degree in English education and my master’s degree in Educational Technology and TESOL have prepared me with a strong ground in theoretical aspects of teaching and Educational Technology. Then, this PhD program will give me knowledge and skills of using interdisciplinary approaches and integrating research, practice, and policy in education.
5. How have you contributed to solving a challenge and to implementing change or reform?*
Contoh:
In 2008, I was sent to a remote village in … for three months. Together with five other students, I carried out some duties focusing how to improve ….. in the village. Prior to my departure, I had analyzed the issues faced by the villagers, such as …… I read some research articles and learned some information from other countries that face similar issues. Then, I came up with several alternatives to solve the issues and intended to implement it during my stay in the village..
My first alternative solution was ……. However, unfortunately, after a couple of weeks of implementation, the villagers…… After that, I decided to continue with my second alternatiive solution which was ….
In the end, i was able to address the issue of …. in the village. It taught me about …..
6. Please:
a) give three practical and realistic examples of how you intend to use the knowledge, skills and connections you will gain from your scholarship.  Possible tasks can be personal and/or professional; and*
Contoh:
My first practical and realistic example will be working with international organization focusing on school-aged children’s education in remote areas. I will play a role in conducting the analysis of …… as well as designing the appropriate curriculum for …. Second, …
b) list any possible constraints you think may prevent you from achieving these tasks.*
Contoh:
Although technology may be the one that can cut the issue of distance and school building, it is still an expensive thing in Indonesia. Funding will certainly become the challenge in order to have adequate technological resources in … The other constraint is the national policy regarding …. Indonesia does not have a policy that supports …..
Let’s break the limits..!!
