The PhD program in "Innovative Biomedical Technologies" (IBT) is an international and multidisciplinary joint postgraduate training program provided by the University of Eastern Piedmont at Novara and the University of Insubria at Varese (Italy) in collaboration with the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque and the Los Alamos National Laboratory (USA).

The IBT Program offers four scholarships for the following topics:

We would like to draw your attention to the possibility of following our course
on Climate change adaptation in agriculture and natural resources management
which will be held in East Africa from 28 February - 11 March 2011.
The course is designed for mid-career professionals who are engaged at higher
levels and deal with policy making either from the research side (as advisor),
government side, or from civil society who aim to have a full understanding of
climate change adaptation concepts, be able to effectively and meaningfully
contribute to the debate on climate change adaption, either in the policy
process and/or in providing knowledge to the policy process.

Job description
Temperature (an abiotic stress factor) affects human health. Global warming has sparked new interest in the weather-health relation. Epidemiological studies found associations between mean daily outdoor temperature and mortality in population. The effects of temperature as a trigger on different endpoints such as myocardial infarction and preterm birth are subject of the thesis with a strong focus on the shape of the association.

Profile and diploma
Candidates have a master of biostatistics, statistics, biology, biomedical sciences or medicine.

The Institute of Clinical Medicine (ICM) was established as part of the Technomedicum of Tallinn University of Technology in 2007. The Institute operates as a science-, study- and development establishment in the medicine sphere. Clinical medicine is an area that builds a competence bridge between biomedicine and the clinical manifestation of diseases.
