invites applications for a
Funded PhD position
from October 15th 2009, for a minimum period of 36 months.
The position requires full time attendance. Remuneration is based on the Swiss National Fund parameters.
Duties
The PhD student will take part in the CUS research project (Swiss Cooperation Project in Architecture) Critical encyclopaedia of re-use and restoration of Twentieth-Century architecture, coordinated by professors Bruno Reichlin (USI), Franz Graf (EPFL) and Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani (ETHZ). He/She will work under the supervision of the responsible faculty members (B. Reichlin, R. Grignolo). The area of his/her research will be the theory and history of re-use and restoration of Twentieth-Century heritage and work will comprise the documentation of case studies. She/He will also write some of the encyclopaedia's entries.
Requirements
- Master degree in architecture
- Good knowledge of Twentieth-Century architecture and restoration
- Good knowledge of Swiss national languages, German especially, and English.
Postgraduate qualifications will receive positive evaluation.

The PhD application must include a curriculum vitae, list of publications, presentation of Master degree work, two letters of reference from professors who have followed the candidate in her/his academic career and a letter of motivation.
A PhD research program, accompanied by a letter of the PhD tutor at the Accademia, will have to be presented by November 2009. The contract validity is subordinated to the acceptance of the PhD research program by the Consiglio dell'Accademia di architettura of USI (Università della Svizzera Italiana).
