New Zealand Development Scholarship

The New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) scheme offers the opportunity to people from selected developing countries to undertake development-related studies in New Zealand.
This may include study related to education, health, rural livelihoods, governance, human rights, or economic development, depending on the human resource development training needs of the home government.

New Zealand -Development Scholarships are offered for full-time, tertiary level study at participating New Zealand education institutions.
The NZDS scheme has two categories:
1-New Zealand Development Scholarships – Public category (NZDS-Public)
The NZDS-Public scholarships scheme is a bilateral scheme available to individuals from selected partner countries in
Southeast Asia and thePacific. The selection criteria is determined by the partner government and NZAID.

Shortlisted applications, mostly from public sector employees, are endorsed for a scholarship by the partner government. Employees from civil society or private sector organisations may apply for the NZDS-Public in some countries depending on country-specific selection criteria. The levels and fields of study available for study in New Zealand are determined according to the partner country’s human resource development training needs.Country eligibility download: Cambodia (pdf 6K), Indonesia (pdf 8K), Lao PDR (pdf 6K), Philippines, Timor-Leste (pdf 5K), Viet Nam (pdf 5K), Cook Islands (pdf 9K), Fiji (on hold), Kiribati (pdf 9K), ,Papua New Guinea (pdf 4K), ,Samoa (pdf 1K), Solomon Islands (pdf 1K), Tonga (pdf 2K), Vanuatu (pdf 1K).
2-New Zealand Development Scholarships – Open category (NZDS-Open)
The NZDS-Open scholarships scheme is a non-bilateral scheme available to candidates of some developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific. Under the NZDS-Open scheme, candidates independently apply for a scholarship.

NZDS-Open scholarships are generally directed at employees of private sector or civil society sector organisations, including non-governmental organisations. In some countries, public sector employees can also apply for a NZDS-Open scholarship depending on the country or region-specific selection criteria. This criteria also determines the levels and the fields of study under which candidates can apply to study in New Zealand.

Hungarian Government Scholarships 2010/2011

Through the Hungarian Scholarship Board Office, the Hungarian Minister of Education and Culture offers scholarships for foreign students and professors of higher education institutions as well as research fellows who intend to gain further professional experience in Hungarian institutions of higher education or research. Scholarships can be applied for under two systems:

BILATERAL AGREEMENTS

The Office of the Hungarian Scholarship Board (hereinafter HSB) welcomes applications by citizens of countries (and territories) that have a valid/effective educational co-operation programme with Hungary, or a bilateral agreement signed by the Hungarian Government or the Ministry of Education and Culture of Hungary and the relevant ministry of the given country (or territory). Assessment and shortlisting of applications is conducted by the relevant home country (or territory) scholarship authority or Ministry of Education, as well as dissemination of all information regarding the application procedure and deadlines. The list of countries (or territories) and contact information on the partner scholarship offices can be found on our webpage (http://www.scholarship.hu/static/angol/partners/).

Although the Hungarian Scholarship Board accepts applications from these countries (or territories) submitted directly to its Office, please note that the applications evaluated and forwarded by the home country (or territory) authorities always take precedence.

COUNTRIES WHOSE CITIZENS MAY APPLY ONLY ON THE BASIS OF BILATERAL AGREEMENTS:

Afghanistan, Lithuania, Mongolia, Palestine, Ukraine, Yemen and Vietnam.

SCHOLARSHIP POOL

In 2005 the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Hungary established a "scholarship pool", a scholarship system of various types of scholarships, allowing for applications from the following countries/territories:
Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korean Republic, Kuwait, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, The Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom.

Citizens of Austria can also apply for Hungarian scholarships through the Stiftung Aktion Österreich-Ungarn (www.omaa.elte.hu).
SCHOLARSHIP TYPES

Applicants can apply for all scholarship types in the "scholarship pool" system. The scholarships offered in the bilateral agreements announced by the foreign partners are also categorized according to these scholarship types. In some cases the co-operation programme/bilateral agreement does not contain all the scholarships listed under the pool programme, hence they may not figure among the scholarships announced by the partner office. For citizens of countries that have a bilateral agreement and a partner scholarship office it is recommended to submit their applications directly to HSB, in the pool system, in case the bilateral agreement does not allow for a specific type of scholarship listed in the pool programme.

Applicants are exempt who gained admission to a tuition-free program at an institution of higher education (state-financed university, full-time program), where the working language is different from Hungarian.

The following scholarships are available in the Academic Year 2010/2011:

A - semester / partial studies (3-10 months)

PhD. Vacancy “Industrial Quality Monitoring based on Statistical Process Control (SPC) Technique

PhD. Vacancy “Industrial Quality Monitoring based on
Statistical Process Control (SPC) Techniques”
Description:
Statistical Process Control (SPC)
is a widely used framework for monitoring industrial processes. Within SPC, control charts are a powerful
tool to detect deviations from normal operation, although they are mainly fit
to processes with a fixed target. Such
fixed target, however, is not present in numerous applications and the proposed
research will focus on such nonstationary processes. Examples are ubiquitous and include production
processes in the agro-food sector but also within the framework of monitoring
industrial equipment that is subject to degradation.
Part of the research fits in the
framework of an interdisciplinary research project entitled “Prognostics for
Optimal Maintenance (POM)”. It is
coordinated by the Flanders Mechatronics Technology Centre (FMTC). The goal of the project is toprovide the tools needed to improve
the way maintenance of industrial machinery is done. Today maintenance is regarded as a necessary
burden to keep the machines running. However,
companies agree that it would be much better if they could step down from this
image and innovate the way machines and
maintenance are sold. The POM consortium will leverage on the experience the
industry has gained in order to solve a complex optimization problem:
how to provide a better maintenance of industrial machines at a lower total
cost of ownership. POM will develop tools and methodologies that will
help machine builders to reduce the costs and market the whole assemble of
machine plus maintenance. Our team is
mainly involved in developing Statistical Process Monitoring algorithms to
detect anomalies during machine operation. Those anomalies then serve as input for lifetime prediction models
developed by our partners.
Keywords: Statistical
Process Control (SPC), nonstationary processes, degradation
Profile: The candidate should preferably hold a degree
in Statistics, Bioscience Engineering, Engineering or Physics.

PhD scholarship Management at Aarhus School of Business,

The Department of Management at Aarhus School of Business, Aarhus University, has an opening for a PhD scholarship as of 1 March 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter. Over the past few years, entrepreneurship has become an area of increased strategic interest and the entrepreneurship research group at The Department of Management therefore invites applicants for a position as PhD student. This particular position is within the area of entrepreneurship and regional development and is funded by the Regional Development Council.

The PhD student will be joining a dedicated and vibrant group of senior and junior researchers in entrepreneurship from both the business school and the university. S/he will be expected to partake in events arranged by the group and in writing of academic articles alone and with members of the group, and to communicate research results to the public. A successful international applicant is expected to acquire a basic working knowledge of Danish during the early period of the PhD position.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a strong interest and some prior knowledge in entrepreneurship theory. We value methodological plurality. Earlier experience with working in an academic environment from a position as research assistant will be preferable.

PhD students in Denmark work under very favourable terms: They are employed on a full-time basis for three years, and the salary is sufficient to cover all necessary accommodation and living costs and to lead an active life. A PhD student does not pay university fees.

PhD students at Aarhus School of Business (ASB), work under almost the same terms as other research staff, i.e. they have their own office space with a computer, incl. Internet access, email, phone etc., as well as access to secretarial assistance etc. Moreover, expenses in connection with the scientific work are covered, e.g. participation in research courses and academic conferences in Denmark and abroad.

There are also good and well-paid job opportunities in Denmark for people with a PhD degree, both within and outside the university sector.

A PhD student in Denmark must complete an individually planned PhD course programme within the relevant research area and conduct a research project under the supervision of experienced senior researchers. The PhD student is also expected, as part of the programme, to spend some time (up to six months), with coverage of travel and accommodation expenses, at another – often foreign – research institution. During the programme, the PhD student is further expected to gain teaching experience within the subject area as well as experience with other forms of dissemination of research results. ASB also finances participation in relevant PhD courses and scientific conferences. In addition, it is expected that PhD students participate in and contribute to the other activities of the department.

Conditions of employment
The PhD fellowship has duration of three years. Graduates and students expecting to complete their study programme in the near future may apply for the fellowship. The employment is covered by a national collective agreement.

The applicant’s research potential will be the determining factor for a positive academic assessment. Exam results will also be assessed. For further information on admission criteria and ASB’s PhD programme, please look here.

If you have any questions about the fellowship etc., please feel free to contact Henrik Scriver, deputy head, tel. +45 8948 6560, email: hsc@asb.dk.

Application
You can apply via the Aarhus University web-based facility (FUA).

Please mark the application with scholarship no.

The following material must be attached:

  • Project description (max. 5 pages), including the expected theoretical and methodological approach.
  • Graduate diploma (including a list of all grades)
  • CV
  • Other material, if any (e.g. publications), which should be taken into account in the assessment

Questions about the preparation of the project description may be directed to Associate Professor Helle Neergaard, Aarhus School of Business, tel. +45 8948 6607, e-mail: hen@asb.dk.

Deadline for application
Monday 1 February 2010 at 12:00 noon. The applications will subsequently be assessed by an expert assessment committee, and applicants will receive the committee’s assessment of the individual application and the response to the application from ASB approx. one month after the expiry of the deadline for application.

The assessment of the application comprises an overall assessment of the applicant and his or her qualifications. Particular weight is attached to the project proposal, the grades obtained by the applicant in the study programme, and to whether the applicant, during the study programme or in another manner, has displayed special skills in writing major papers, e.g. a thesis.

Aarhus School of Business is part of Aarhus University. It currently has 480 permanent employees, including 240 researchers. ASB holds the international EQUIS accreditation awarded by the EFMD (European Foundation of Management Development).

Researchers at ASB cover most fields of research in management, economics, business communication and law. ASB has developed a large international network in these fields.

More than 7,000 students are enrolled at the university. Study programmes include six-semester bachelor programmes, four-semester master’s programmes and three-year full-time PhD programmes as well as part-time MBA and diploma courses.

The scientific faculty of the Department of Management includes 32 researchers of whom 7 are full professors. There are also a number of PhD students and research assistants.
