Polymeric membranes for gas separations: 3 PhDs
In the frame of an EU-funded Initial Training Networks (EID type), coordinated by Fujifilm (Tilburg, The Netherlands) with KU Leuven (Belgium) as a partner, and TNO (Apeldoorn, The Netherlands) and University der Bundeswehr Munchen (Germany) as associated partners, positions are available for 3 PhD students. The research will involve the development of advanced polymer based gas separation membranes.
Specific research topics:
1. Novel Mixed Matrix Membrane (MMM) for gas separation.
2. Novel thin layer composite membrane for gas separation by PEC (Poly Electrolyte Complexes).
3. Versitile / robust porous substrate for multi-layered composite membrane for gas separation membrane.
Basic conditions:
- MSc degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science or comparable.
- Young scientists with no more than 4 years of full time research experience. (EU requirement)
- Can adopt to mobile nature of this program (relatively frequent change of location between the 4 collaborating partners)
Specific profile for topic 1 (WP1) : Novel high performance Mixed Matrix Membrane (MMM)
Back-ground / experience: Chemistry or Chemical engineering.
Knowledge / experience: membrane science, polymer/material science
Specific profile for topic 2 (WP2): Novel thin composite membrane concepts based on PEC (Polyelectrolyte Complex)
Back-ground: Chemistry or Chemical engineering (preferably chemistry).
Knowledge / experience: membrane science, polymer/material science
Specific profile for topic 3 (WP3): Novel robust membrane support
Back-ground / experience: Chemistry, Materials Science or Chemical engineering (preferably chemistry).
Knowledge / experience: membrane science, polymer/material science.
Anticipated starting date: October 1st 2013
