Brief Biography of Dr. Lu Haiping: 


Dr. Lu is now an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2008, and the M.Eng. and B.Eng. degrees from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2004 and 2001, respectively. Before joining HKBU in Aug 2013, Dr. Lu was a Scientist with Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) from 2009 to 2013, and a post-doctoral fellow with the University of Toronto from 2008 to 2009. 


His current research interests include machine learning, big data, computer vision, data mining, biomedical engineering, and tensor-based computation. His 37 papers (32 first-authored) received more than 1000 citations (>27 citations/paper). He is the leading author of the book "Multilinear Subspace Learning: Dimensionality Reduction of Multidimensional Data" (CRC Press, 2013), and the recipient of the 2013 IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award. His PhD student has been selected to receive the prestigious award of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship 2014/15. He is one of the recipients of the 2014 Early Career Award by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong.

PhD and Postdoctoral positions in Majorca, Spain

One PhD and one Postdoctoral research positions are available at the Department of Psychology (University of Balearic Islands, Spain) to join an ongoing project on the Cognitive neuroscience of executive control aimed to assess functional and effective connectivity (e.g., Dynamic Causal Modeling) in M/EEG data sets from healthy controls and brain injured patients. The project aims to develop state-of-the-art neuropsychological tools for a more valid and cost-effective evaluation of dysexecutive symptoms in elderly adults and patients with frontal lobe lesions (cf., Barceló & Knight, Cereb. Cortex, 2007; Nyhus & Barceló, Brain & Cognition, 2009). 

Successful pre/postdoctoral candidates will hold a MSc/PhD in Psychology, Biology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Physics, or related fields, and will play a key role in designing, conducting, analyzing and reporting M/EEG studies, with a focus on event-related potentials, oscillatory neural activity and synchrony. Candidates will be fluent in English (knowledge of Spanish is not required), and will prove good interpersonal and communication skills, including writing to a high standard. Both positions are funded by the Spanish Government (MINECO’s grant PSI2013-44760-R), as well as other local research agencies. 

Requirements for the PhD student position: 1) EU citizenship; 2) a Master degree and excellent academic marks; 3) Programming skills (eg., Matlab will be a plus); and 4) Demonstrated ability and high motivation to conduct high-quality research publishable in quality international peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements for the Postdoc position: 1) Strong background publishing EEG and/or MEG studies; 2) Advanced programming skills (eg., Matlab, C, Python); 3) Excellent command of EEG/MEG data analysis software (EEGLAB, SPM8,  Brainstorm, etc); and 4) demonstrate creative and independent work.

Technology is currently seeking excellent university assistants to strengthen its
scientific team dedicated to research and teaching in various areas of Embedded
Automotive Systems. The positions are offered in association with the newly founded
professorship "Embedded Automotive Systems", and focus mainly on research in Automotive
Operating Systems and Microcontroller (Co)Design, Car2X Communication, and Vehicular
Networks. The candidates are expected to pursue a PhD in the mentioned areas.


Successfully completed university studies (Diploma or Master) in either
Technical Informatics, Telematics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical
Engineering, or comparable fields are required.


Candidates should have an outstanding expertise and interest in at least one of the
following areas: Design, implementation, and experimental evaluation of embedded systems,
ideally in the automotive area; real-time operating systems and computer architecture
(single/multi-core); wireless mobile or sensor networks and reliable communication
systems. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Successful candidates are
expected to contribute to supervising courses and bachelor or master students at the
Institute for Technical Informatics (in German language). Experience from academia or

Applications are invited for the post of Post-doctoral Research Assistant in the Department of Psychology at Brunel University London. This post is full-time for a fixed term contract for 18 months and will be funded by a “transformative research” ESRC grant under the supervision of Dr Guido Orgs.

The research project will investigate the influence of movement synchronisation on group cooperation and aesthetic perception in dance. The project is being conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Contemporary and Digital Performance at Brunel University, Dr Daniel Richardson (UCL) and Siobhan Davies Dance Company. In collaboration with Annemieke Apergis-Schoute (Cambridge University), the research project will also explore a new movement-based approach for treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Candidates should have a degree or equivalent (appropriate for PhD registration) in Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience, Engineering or Computer Science. The postholder should have substantial programming experience (Matllab or similar software packages for complex data analysis) and ideally has previous experience of using motion capture technology. Additional experience in neuroimaging methods, such as EEG and/or fMRI will be an advantage.

The postholder will be a highly motivated and innovative individual and will play a central role in both acquiring and publishing data for a major research project that could transform our understanding of how group cooperation is linked to moving in synchrony and to the performing arts. The post will involve the analysis of kinematic, motion capture and neuroimaging data that will be collected in group experiments on how people synchronise each others’ actions. Within a multidisciplinary team of researchers and performance artists, the successful applicant will lead on collecting and analysing these datasets, and report the findings.

The Department of Psychology at Brunel University is a thriving, interdisciplinary Department in the School of Social Sciences, with 28 full-time staff members of staff. Program Tugas Belajar Pascasarjana Kementerian Riset dan Teknologi (Kemenristek) ini dilakukan untuk mendukung pencapaian salah satu prioritas dalam Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Menengah (RPJM) 2010 - 2014 yang selaras juga dengan Masterplan Percepatan dan Perluasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Indonesia (MP3EI), yaitu Peningkatan Kapasitas dan Kapabilitas Sumber Daya Manusia Ilmu Pengetahuan danTeknologi (SDM-Iptek) dalam rangka penguatan Sistem Inovasi Nasional (SINas).Peningkatan kapasitas SDM Iptek ini diharapkan akan mendukung pengembangan produk Iptek berbasis konsorsium riset, model SINas berbasis revitalisasi Puspiptek, pusat unggulan, dan intensifikasi Sistem Inovasi Daerah (SIDa) di 6 koridor ekonomi.

Adapun dalam hal ini, Program Beasiswa melingkupi: program gelar S2 dan S3 di dalam negeri yang meliputi perguruan tinggi negeri di selururuh Indonesia, dimana Kementerian Riset dan Teknologi saat ini telah menjalin kerjasama dengan beberapa perguruan tinggi negeri Antara lain Universitas Indonesia (UI), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM), Universitas Negeri Sebelas Maret (UNS), dan Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri).
