Description:
The University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a PhD Research
Assistantship to support research on the Eyak language. The successful candidate
will work under the supervision of Professor Emeritus Michael Krauss to compile
grammar, texts, and lexicon resulting from Krauss' fifty years of research with the
Eyak language. While this position is administratively based in Fairbanks, academic
affiliation and physical location are maximally flexible. The successful applicant will
have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to Eyak and Athabaskan
studies and to carry forward the broader research agenda of Alaska Native language
documentation.
The position is renewable annually for a maximum of three years, effective August
17, 2013. Stipend is $17,919 annually (12 mos. at 20 hours/week, depending on
experience, pending university approval). For students enrolled at University of
Alaska support additionally includes graduate tuition (9 credits per semester) and
health insurance. Funding is provided by NSF-OPP grant 1003160, Completion of
Eyak Grammar, Dictionary, and Texts.
